SYSTEM 01 · BRAND STRATEGY

POSITIONING
BEFORE

PIXELS.

The business needs a clear answer to what it is, who it’s for, and why anyone should choose it. When that answer is missing, Brand Strategy becomes the work every downstream deliverable answers to — so the visuals carry a position instead of decorating the gap.

30–90 MINUTES · ONE WRITTEN READ · $750–$2,500 CREDITED TOWARD BUILD OR DIRECTION

01

THE PROBLEM

YOU’RE ON BRAND.

YOU’RE OFF
POSITION.

Same logo everywhere. Different company every time. The guide gets followed — right colors, right fonts, every rule respected — and the business still shows up different on every surface. Your website argues one thing. Your deck argues another. Whoever picks up the phone argues a third.

“On brand” is a compliance check. It polices how the business looks and sounds — it can’t decide what the business argues. That decision is the position. Not making it is the brand strategy gap. A brand strategy gap makes the most beautiful identity forgettable, and a sharp brand strategy makes a modest visual system read like a statement.

Most studios skip Brand Strategy because it’s hard to photograph. When positioning is the problem, every downstream dollar depends on fixing it first.

02

THE FIX

SIX COMPONENTS.
ONE POSITION.

Brand Strategy isn’t a deck. It’s the operating system. The six components below are the parts a Brand Strategy Build can draw from. The Diagnostic decides which need to be built, repaired, or retained — and whatever ships is made so a non-strategist on your team can run it.

02.5

FIELD NOTE

THE POSITION HAD TO WORK.

Atlas is where the strategy stopped being an exercise. Audience segmentation, competitive positioning, message hierarchy, and customer behavior had to resolve into one position the business could actually use. The Field Note below documents that work through original collateral, operating records, customer reviews, and historical competitive evidence — then traces how the position carried through the business. The audience on the plan wasn’t the audience at the counter.

03

THE PROCESS

FOUR PHASES.
NO MYSTERY.

I don’t disappear for a month and come back with a deck. The process is structured, transparent, and built around working sessions where you watch the position take shape. The Diagnostic comes first. If Brand Strategy is the right move, the written read becomes the brief for the four phases below.

04

INVESTMENT

NOT PRICED OFF A MENU.
SCOPED BY THE DIAGNOSTIC.

Build engagements run $10K–$60K. You don’t have to figure out where Brand Strategy lands inside that range — that’s the Diagnostic’s job. The exact number is fixed, in writing, before you sign.

Your written scope names which system components are included. Working sessions, handoff, and the 30 / 60 / 90-day rollout plan are standard in every Build.

Builds start at $10K — under two months of a $65K–$100K marketing hire.

THE FIRST STEP

Every Build starts with a Diagnostic, and it decides whether Brand Strategy is the move at all. If it isn’t, you stop there. The entire Diagnostic fee is credited toward a Build or Direction engagement started within 90 days of the Diagnostic call.

Build is the engagement above. Direction is ongoing senior judgment — from $4,500/mo, month-to-month.

05

IS THIS FOR YOU

THE HONEST FIT CHECK.

I say no to the wrong projects so the right ones get done. Here’s the truth about who this is and isn’t built for.

EVERY DOLLAR DOWNSTREAM ANSWERS TO POSITION.

Your position gets decided either way — on purpose, or by accident. The Diagnostic is where deciding on purpose starts.
